Something for Everybody

The YMCA offers several types of sports for our Adult members including racquetball, tennis, noon basketball, volleyball leagues, dodgeball leagues, racquetball leagues, and flag football leagues.

Men’s Flag Football

Come join our new Men’s Flag Football league on Tuesday and Thursday nights. This program will consist of 10 games over 8 weeks of league play. Playoffs will be a single elimination tournament following the regular season. Each team is allowed a maximum of 14 players on their roster, but only 7 players on the field at a time! The final roster is due the 3rd week of games.

Teams must pay in full with one check when registering. Team fees include all scheduled games and league awards. This is an adult league-no children are allowed at the fields.

Season: Begins: April 22nd, Ends: June 26th

Season Kickoff Meetings: On the fields April 22nd & April 24th at 5:30 pm the day of each team’s first game. Team Captains will be notified.

Games: Tuesdays or Thursdays, 1-2 games per week, 1 hour long. Game times range from 6-8 pm.

Tournament: June 17th-26th

Team Fee: $225

Coed Flag Football

Come join our new Coed Flag Football league on Monday & Wednesday nights. This program will consist of 10 games over 8 weeks of league play. Recreational Racquetball League

Come join our Recreational Racquetball League. This program consists of 8 weeks of league play. There will be a set game schedule; however, competitors will contact one another to set up the day and time of their match. This allows for flexibility with work schedules. Prizes are awarded to the top 3 participants every session.

Organized Racquetball Leagues have currently finished up for the Spring-Fall, but will resume starting in late October-November. Please contact Kristie Steffen at the YMCA for more details.

Adult Tae Kwon Do

What can Y Tae Kwon Do do for you?  Enhance self-esteem by heightening your physical and mental powers.  Build confidence by encouraging you to succeed and to take control of your life.  Develop discipline by thoroughly training your body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Tae Kwon Do.  Teach self-defense by training you to recognize situations in which physical self-defense may be necessary, and teaching you how to control such situations to your advantage. Strengthen your mind and body through increased physical coordination and mental discipline.

Summer Session: Wednesdays, May 21st-July 30th, 7-8 pm, 10 weeks
Fee: $30/$60

Fall Session 1: Wednesdays, Aug 13th-Oct 1st, 7-8 pm, 8 weeks
Fee: $24/$48

Tae Kwon Do is designed to expose you to self discipline skills, increase self confidence and physical conditioning. We offer classes for both youth and adults including White and Yellow Belt, Orange Belt and higher, Adults only Tae Kwon Do and Self Defense classes. Ray Nelson

Mr. Ray Nelson has been leading the Tae Kwon Do program at the Norfolk YMCA for over 20 years. He started TKD training in 1980 under instructors Mr. Bob Lankford and Mr. Tim Schmitz. He received his black belt in 1985 and became one of Mr. Lankford’s asstistant instructors. In 1987 Ray, took the program over from Mr. Lankford. Ray has attended the following seminars: the Karate College in Roanoke Virginia, Han Moo Do in Baton Rouge La. and the Hapkido Challenge in Lincoln, NE. Ray has taken Hapkido training from Mr. Mike Burnett and plans on continuing his training with Mr. Josh Cather.

Adult Coed Volleyball League

Come join our popular adult coed volleyball league on Sunday nights. Three divisions of league play are available for sign-up. This program will consist of 10 weeks of league play followed by a double elimination tournament with league awards. The final roster is due the 3rd week of games.

“A1” Division will be a competitive league with rules strictly enforced. Teams will be responsible for providing a referee for a game before or after their own game.
Team Fee: $100 (must pay with one check)

“A2 Upper” Division will be a competitive league with rules semi-strictly enforced.
“A2 Lower” Division will be a competitive league with rules semi-strictly enforced.
“A3” Division will be a competitive league with rules moderately enforced.
Team Fee: $175 (must pay with one check)

This is an adult league. ALL children must be in Child Watch during league play; fees apply. Spots in Child Watch must be reserved by 1 pm the Friday before your game.

Team Captain’s Meeting: TBA

Games: Sundays, 1 hour long, game times range from 3:00-9:00 pm

Season: August-November

Tournament: TBA

The next season of Adult Volleyball will begin in August 2014.

Adult Dodgeball

Dodge, Duck, Dip, and Dive! No skill required! Come and join Dodgeball with a sense of humor! Registration is done as a team or as a free agent and we will find you a team. Each team is allowed a maximum of 12 players on their roster, but only 6 players on the court at a time! Teams MUST have at least 2 females on the court at all times. Game start times range from 5:30-9:30 pm depending on the number of teams (youth play earlier games). There will be double elimination tournament. Tournament winners will receive champion T-shirts!

Prizes awarded to the team with the best dressed/most creative theme!

Season: February-March 2015

Team Fee: $125 (must pay with one check), Individual Fee: $20/$40

The next season of Dodgeball will begin in February, 2015.
