Are you passionate about fitness and ready to inspire your Norfolk community? The Norfolk Family YMCA is currently seeking Part-Time Group Fitness Instructors to lead inspiring evening YOGA and High-Energy Les Mills Programs.

We're Looking for Someone Who Is:

  • Knowledgeable: Deep understanding of Yoga principles, postures, and sequencing, as well as proficiency in your certified Les Mills programs.

  • Excellent Communicator: Able to clearly instruct, provide feedback, and connect with members.

Qualifications:

  • Current certification(s) in Yoga (e.g., Yoga Alliance RYT 200, or equivalent).
  • Current certification(s) in specific Les Mills programs you intend to teach (e.g., BODYPUMP, BODYCOMBAT, BODYBALANCE, Les Mills CORE, Les Mills THRIVE, Les Mills Strength Development or Born To Move).
  • Nationally recognized Group Exercise certification (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM) highly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience teaching group fitness classes (mention specific experience if you have a preference, e.g., "1+ year," or "open to passionate newer instructors with relevant certifications").
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Here's a great way to advance your skills as a fitness professional, whether its weight loss, muscle gain, functional strength, sports performance, and so much more. Train clients and build up your clientele while you build your own schedule. Trainers are part-time with the opportunity to become full-time.

Help teach the youth of today the importance of health and fitness through our Youth Fitness Gold Card class. Work with people battling Parkinson's disease fight back in Rock Steady Boxing. Engage with our members through Wellness Coach shifts, which will help build your clientele.

Applicants must have a positive attitude with a willingness to learn, and a passion for health and fitness. Some prior personal training experience is preferred, but not required.

Applicants must be certified.

Qualified individuals will have a positive attitude, be hands-on, and have excellent communication skills. Must be self-motivated, reliable, enthusiastic and safety oriented. All applicants should enjoy teaching and mentoring children of all ages. Gymnastics experience is not required! 

Coaching hours are: Part time; Flexible availability for Monday-Friday evenings and/or Saturday mornings. We can offer 2-20 hours/week depending on what you are looking for!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruct recreational classes as assigned according to weekly lesson plans provided by the Gymnastics Director Proficiently lead recreational gymnastics classes. Always implement appropriate risk management strategies. Always demonstrate concern for the overall welfare of student athletes. Engage in ethical decision-making and outstanding sportsmanship. Administering first aid, if necessary. Provide general advising, mentoring and support to students. Demonstrates enthusiasm for the YMCA Gymnastics program and is enthusiastic about current position! Demonstrate ability to teach the development of skills and proper techniques. Adhere and maintain a standard of quality and excellence with YMCA Gymnastics. Candidates must be willing to participate in gym and facility trainings.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

-Loves working with kids ages 6-14 years old 

-Applicant is 15 years old or older 

-A background in gymnastics helps, but it is not required! 

-Expected Hours: no more than 15 hours per week. 

-If they have the skills to work with kids, we can train them to coach the classes!!

Team Gymnastics Coaches will provide gymnastics instruction to participants of different ages and ensure that they thrive and are successful within the program.

Requirements:

  • Coaches must have a full understanding of gymnastics skills and have a knowledge of competition gymnastics.
  • Have a background in competitive gymnastics.
  • In addition, this position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Applicants must be ages 16+

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor gymnastics activities of all participants, intervening to correct technique where necessary.
  • Observe and spot athletes as they perform on various apparatus.
  • Learn and be able to teach AmeriKids competition routines.
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with participants, aiming to encourage them in a positive attitude.
  • Teach skills at each apparatus, following proper progressions set in place by the Head Coach and Program Director.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness, includes bathrooms, sitting area, and equipment.
  • Attends meetings pertinent to his or her position.
  • Complete student attendance, assessments, and timesheets on time.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Y Kids Club is Before and After School Child Care for Grades K-4th, at 5 Norfolk Public Elementary Schools: Bel Air, Jefferson, Lincoln, Westside, and Woodland Park. We are looking for several individuals who enjoy working with with school-aged children, and who possibly, want to gain experience to help build their future career in teaching or child care! Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising children ages 5-10 (Grades K-4th); assisting with homework; leading games, activities, and crafts; keeping children engaged and on-task; redirecting behaviors; and communicating with guardians. It is preferred, but not required, for applicants to have prior experience and/or have taken college courses in the Education Department.

All positions are Part-Time. Hours Available: Mon-Fri 6-8 am; Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 3-6 pm; Wed 1:45-6:00 pm. Flexible scheduling; attach a current Class Schedule, if applicable. Please complete the Online Job Application below.

We are looking for Soccer, Flag football, Volleyball & Basketball referees for our fall and winter youth sports leagues. Games take place primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as some weekends. This job is perfect for high schoolers or college students with our flexible scheduling. Wages start at $12/game.

Take pride in your job at the Y! We're looking for a motivated individual who will work hard to ensure a clean and healthy environment for our members and guests by completing all duties on their daily schedule.

Applicants must:

  • Be dependable and able to work on their own, as well as with other staff when needed.
  • Have a good eye for detail- spot dirt and clean it without having to be told.
  • Perform basic cleaning of workout areas and equipment, restrooms, locker rooms, and common areas.

We are taking applications for various lifeguard positions. Shift times vary between 5am and 8pm/ The main responsibility is monitoring patrons in and out of the water. Lifeguard certification is required and can be provided if necessary.
