We are currently looking for a highly motivated & experienced Member Engagement Director with strong management skills. The Member Engagement Director will be responsible for developing & implementing sales effort for growing & retaining memberships.

 

Essential Functions

Welcome Center – Staff Management

  • Hires, trains, evaluates, schedules & supervises staff & volunteers for the Norfolk Family Y Membership department.
  • Promotes an enthusiastic, outgoing, professional & proactive service-oriented environment.
  • Ensures all policies & procedures are followed, including risk policies, data entry, member greeting, phone etiquette, dress code, registration & financial controls.

Membership Services

  • Oversees all activities & processes related to Membership department, including member intake, evaluation & program referrals.
  • Develops a member engagement plan that includes communication via phone, mail, or email on 30, 60, 90, 180-day intervals.
  • Responds to member comments in a timely manner to ensure that their comments make it to the appropriate department director.
  • Develops & coordinates an annual Member Appreciation event.
  • Manages & grows the Corporate Membership program.
  • Conducts ongoing membership satisfaction surveys with recommendations to provide value & quality which meets member expectations.
  • Works with the Marketing Director on all membership promotions & marketing efforts.
  • Manages the YMCA reciprocity program and coordinate issues or concerns w/neighboring YMCAs.

Administrative

  • Participates as a member at-large with program meetings.
  • Works w/supervisor creating the annual budget & maintaining the annual actual income. 
  • Supervises a team of part-time Member Service Representatives.

Other

  • Assists w/strategic plans as assigned.
  • Attends & participates in required YMCA events list as assigned.
  • Participates in fundraising efforts & work with the Campaign Committee on identifying possible prospects within the YMCA Membership.
  • Participates in Director-On-Duty weeknight/weekend coverage.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs all miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Implement Risk Management Policies through training, evaluation & record keeping.

 

Qualifications

The successful incumbent should meet the following requirements:

  • 4-year college degree in a related area of study or relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication, presentation skills & customer service skills.
  • Supervisory & management experience.
  • Experience in membership services, recruitment & retention.
  • Possession or in pursuit of First Aid & CPR certifications.

Salary: $40,000-$47,000, depending on experience.

 

Summer Day Camp is a fun summer experience, connecting with kids through games, arts and crafts, swimming, weekly field trips, and more!

This is an opportunity to strengthen your skills with leading school-agers. You’ll be responsible for the supervision and safety of the campers, as well as leading crafts, activities, & games; supervising swim time; redirecting behaviors; weekly field trips; communicating with parents about their child’s day; and creating an overall fun camp experience for campers!

Hours available: Monday-Friday 6:00 am - 6:00 pm. Various shifts would be scheduled depending on availability. Start Date: May 28, 2024 or start earlier in May by helping wrap up our school year with Y Kids Club, our Before & After School Child Care program.

Day Camp runs May 28th – August 9th; flexible scheduling.

It’s preferred if applicants have prior experience with school-age children, but not required.

Part-time position

Interested in learning all about our Y programs and departments? We’re looking to fill evening & weekend shifts primarily, with the opportunity to fill in for an occasional morning and afternoon when need be.

  • Applicants preferably have customer service and/or sales experience and can handle cash.
  • Applicants must be outgoing, energetic, friendly, with great oral and written communication skills, and love interaction with members and guests.

** HIRING for Teacher & Site-Director Positions for 2023/2024 school year**

Y Kids Club is Before and After School Child Care for Grades K-4th, at 5 Norfolk Public Elementary Schools: Bel Air, Jefferson, Lincoln, Westside, and Woodland Park. We are looking for several individuals who enjoy working with with school-aged children, and who possibly, want to gain experience to help build their future career in teaching or child care! Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising children ages 5-10 (Grades K-4th); assisting with homework; leading games, activities, and crafts; keeping children engaged and on-task; redirecting behaviors; and communicating with guardians. It is preferred, but not required, for applicants to have prior experience and/or have taken college courses in the Education Department.

All positions are Part-Time. Hours Available: Mon-Fri 6-8 am; Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 3-6 pm; Wed 1:45-6:00 pm. Flexible scheduling; attach a current Class Schedule, if applicable. Please complete the Online Job Application - "Application" is in the right column.

Take pride in your job at the Y! We’re looking for a motivated individual who will work hard to ensure a clean and healthy environment for our members and guests by completing all duties on their daily schedule. Imagine going to work knowing that what you do each day positively affects so many people!

Applicants must:

  • Perform basic cleaning of workout areas and equipment, restrooms, locker rooms, and common areas
  • Be dependable and able to work on their own, as well as with other staff when needed
  • Have a good eye for detail- spot dirt and clean it without having to be told
  • Be friendly and welcoming when interacting with members and guests and assist with any facility requests/concerns

Teach children the fundamentals of swimming in this part-time position. Lessons are Monday & Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. No certification is required, but training is included.

We are taking applications for all shifts for the Lifeguard position. Shift times vary between 5 am and 8 pm. The main responsibility is monitoring patrons in and out of the water. Lifeguard certification is required and can be provided if necessary.

Here's a great way to advance your skills as a fitness professional, whether its weight loss, muscle gain, functional strength, sports performance, and so much more. Train clients and build up your clientele while you build your own schedule. Trainers are part-time with the opportunity to be full-time.

Help teach the youth of today the importance of health and fitness through our Youth Fitness Gold Card class. Work with people battling Parkinson's disease fight back in Rock Steady Boxing. Engage with our members through Wellness Coach shifts, which will help build your clientele.

Applicants must have a positive attitude with a willingness to learn, and a passion for health and fitness. Some prior personal training experience is preferred, but not required. Applicants must be certified or currently working towards certification.

We are looking for Soccer, Flag football, Volleyball & Basketball referees for our fall and winter youth sports leagues. Games take place primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as some weekends. This job is perfect for high schoolers or college students with our flexible scheduling. Wages start at $12/game.
